Block trade
Also called: block sale
In one line
A single large sale of a sizeable chunk of shares, negotiated privately rather than in small pieces.
In plain English
A block trade moves a big parcel of shares in one go, often at a negotiated discount for size. In private markets it's how larger holders or grouped sellers transact efficiently.
If you were explaining it to a 5-year-old
Instead of selling toys one by one, you sell a whole crate at once to a single buyer — usually for a slightly lower price per toy.
Why it matters when you sell
If you hold a large stake, bundling it into a block can attract serious buyers but may require accepting a size discount.
