Exercise notice

Also called: notice of exercise

In one line

The formal document you submit to exercise options, specifying how many and triggering payment of the strike price.

In plain English

To exercise, you file an exercise notice with the company and pay the strike price. It's the paperwork that converts your options into shares on the record.

If you were explaining it to a 5-year-old

The form you fill in to say 'I'm using my voucher now', handed over with your coins to claim the toys.

Why it matters when you sell

Filing it (and paying) is the concrete step that turns options into shares you can eventually sell.
