Post-money valuation

Also called: post-money

In one line

A company's value immediately after new investment is added — pre-money plus the amount raised.

In plain English

Post-money is the headline number you usually hear ('raised at a $1B valuation'). Your ownership percentage is your shares divided by the post-money, fully-diluted share count.

If you were explaining it to a 5-year-old

After new friends add 20 coins to the 100-coin club jar, the club is now 'worth' 120 coins. That's the post-money value.

Why it matters when you sell

The post-money valuation is the figure most often quoted for your company — a convenient, if optimistic, anchor for estimating your stake.
