Qualified purchaser

Also called: QP

In one line

A US investor meeting a high investable-assets threshold, a status above 'accredited' needed for certain large private funds.

In plain English

Some private funds can only take 'qualified purchasers' β€” a stricter bar than accredited investor, based on investments held. It further narrows who can buy into certain vehicles.

If you were explaining it to a 5-year-old

An even more exclusive badge than the normal one β€” only the wealthiest grown-ups get in to certain clubs.

Why it matters when you sell

The qualified-purchaser bar can limit which funds or SPVs can buy your shares, shaping your pool of buyers.
