🌍 US & Europe · Docs & rolesRepurchase right
Also called: right of repurchase, buyback right
In one line
The company's right to buy back certain shares — typically unvested ones, or a leaver's shares — often at cost or fair value.
In plain English
Companies frequently keep the right to repurchase unvested shares when you leave, and sometimes vested ones too, at a set price. It can limit what you keep or sell after departing.
If you were explaining it to a 5-year-old
A club rule letting it buy back some of your toys when you leave, usually at the price you first paid.
Why it matters when you sell
A repurchase right can reduce the shares you walk away with, so check it before assuming your full stake is sellable.
