Works council

Also called: Betriebsrat, employee representation

In one line

An elected body representing employees in many European companies, which may need to be consulted on compensation matters.

In plain English

Common in Germany, the Netherlands and elsewhere, works councils give employees a formal voice. They can be involved in how equity and compensation schemes are designed, though not usually your individual sale.

If you were explaining it to a 5-year-old

A group of elected helpers who speak up for all the kids when the club makes big decisions about rewards.

Why it matters when you sell

Works councils mainly shape plan design rather than individual secondaries, but they're part of the European equity landscape.
