Seed round
Also called: seed funding, seed
In one line
An early financing round that funds a startup's first real product and traction, before a Series A.
In plain English
Seed is often the first priced money (or SAFEs) a startup raises to build and find fit. Employees who join around seed usually hold the lowest strike prices and the most dilution ahead of them.
If you were explaining it to a 5-year-old
The very first batch of coins the club collects to start making toys properly.
Why it matters when you sell
If you joined at seed, your shares have survived the most dilution but may carry the lowest cost — both matter when valuing a sale.
