Up round

Also called: up-round

In one line

A fundraising round priced above the previous one, raising the company's per-share value.

In plain English

The happy case: the company raises at a higher valuation than last time, so each share is worth more than before. It's the usual signal of a company doing well.

If you were explaining it to a 5-year-old

Last year your toy was worth 10 coins. This year the shop says it's worth 15. Your toy just got more valuable.

Why it matters when you sell

A recent up round gives you a higher, more defensible reference price when negotiating a secondary sale.
