Frequently asked questions

Should I exercise my options now or wait?
It depends on the cost (strike plus any AMT), your conviction in the company, and how long you'd hold. Exercising early can start the clock for better tax treatment but puts cash at risk in an illiquid company. Our 'exercise now or wait' framework and the free exercise/AMT calculator help you weigh it with your own numbers.
What's usually the best time to sell startup shares?
For many people a company-run tender offer is the best window — it's typically the cleanest, best-priced, lowest-friction route, with the company's blessing built in. Outside a tender, selling depends on your share class, transfer restrictions and finding an approved buyer. There's no universal answer; it depends on your situation and goals.
